Hollis P. Monroe & Ruoho Ruotsi - Black Rhapsody (DCP015)
We are proud to present a new 12" split-EP by Hollis P. Monroe & Ruoho Ruotsi. The record entitled Black Rhapsody is out now on vinyl in finer shops everywhere, distributed by Crosstalk International (Chicago). For sounds & more information on the record, check out the release page. This 12" record came about in the most fascinating way. In September 2008, while digging through crates at Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Ruoho Ruotsi stumbled upon Black Rhapsody, an epic spoken word LP from 1970 by famed African-American historian & educator, Dr. Ed Robinson. Touched by Dr. Robinson's words & moved by his deep & sonorous voice, Ruoho Ruotsi enlisted the talents of legendary house producer Hollis P. Monroe to collaborate with on interpreting this arresting spoken word as music. The results are “I Wept For You”, a Hollis P. Monroe signature deep house classic and “Black Rhapsody”, a left-field techno oeuvre by Ruoho Ruotsi, both tracks breathed to life by Dr. Robinson's powerful presence. This EP is completed by another Hollis P. Monroe original “The Beautiful Izi”, with Ruoho Ruotsi on the remix detail. You can read about and see more of the actual Beautiful Izi on this Hollis facebook Note.
