Aujourd'hui

Busy schedule this weekend, in lieu of Coachella (next year hopefully!) I've on the menu:

  • A visit to the Museum of Craft and Folk Art (MOCFA) in San Francisco, to check out the brilliant work of Walter Kitundu. This is the last weekend the show is around. I rambled about this a couple of months ago, but this'll be the first time getting to check out these instruments in Liveendirekt!

  • Then ce soir, I'm off to Rx for the Overlap show, run by Solsken et al, featuring groovy new music and live performances by Nate Boyce + Christopher Willits + Wobbly.

  • Afterwards, it's off to Fat City to check out the Japanese techno stylings of Fumiya Tanaka.

  • Time and wakefulness permitting, I'd like to pop in at an after to support Auralism Records, SF's newest label.

the Werks 420

On April 20th, Ruoho Ruotsi will be playing out live in the dragonfly room at the perennially groovy 111 Minna Gallery as part of the Werks 420. Limaçon and Jason Emsley, representing Pokerflat and Platzhirsch respectively will also be supplying liveset and DJ action throughout the evening.

Check out a little promotional blurb in the XLR8R Magazine. Higher resolution images over on flickr.

EMI is DRM-free on iTune Music Store

In a press release from Apple this morning, the entire EMI catalogue will be available on the iTunes Music Store *without* the usual DRM and at higher bitrates, albeit for 30 cents more. In spite of the price increase, which shouldn't last long, it is nice to finally see some common sense actually trickling down from these labels.

Though I'm not a huge fan of anyone on EMI, and I would sooo much more prefer Apple sell MP3s rather than AACs for maximum interoperability, this is a big step in the right direction for the music industry and something that I've been complaining about forever... I think Cory Doctorow will be pleased.
