King Tubby's speakerbox on Ebay

WOW!! All I pathetically muster right now is WOW!! (na-wow!) This speakerbox has certainly been put through its paces! ... It is absolutely amazing that in the 18 years since King Tubby was murdered outside his studio, that this thing is still even around, especially in that tropical climate!

The winning bid is certainly a luckyarse chap!

Hallelujah Chicken Run Band - Take One

Over the last month or so I've been marinating in the recordings of The Hallelujah Chicken Run Band. Aside from having the "best name eva, like oh my god!!" *ahem*, the story behind their existence at the dawn of the Zimbabwean Revolution and the career of Thomas Mapfumo is most intriguing! Most exciting is the presence of their recordings on emusic!! Shoot, join for free just to download this stuff!!

Check out more in depth history and musicological ramblings over at Benn Luxo du taccu, Candied Pop and Afrofunk Forum. If you're finding all this muy groovy, then on the same tip, you might wanna check out the Green Arrows. More about them at Chonga Style.

ye olde skoole

I'm really excited about efforts that libraries around the world are making to scan in ancient books and manuscripts, documents that I otherwise would never have a chance to read. Case in point is a series of scans from De Naturae Simia by Robert Fludd (1574-1637) of instruments and other systems of musical thought (courtesy of University of Utah)

Check out the goodness over at bibliodyssey for more images and detailed discussion and thanks to the article on Music Thing for the heads up!

Now if we all read Latin fluently!!
