It looks like some record companies [and artists] are taking the proverbial plunge (thus moving themselves into the RIAA's gun scope) and releasing material that can explicitly be sampled under one of a variety of the creative commons licenses.
They get props for realising that one size doesn't fit all and that they can do more to contribute to a healthier musical ecosystem.
